In a society that is rarely unplugged from our technology infused culture, it is more important than ever for young people to learn about their cultural heritage. In Spirit of Tivaevae, Melodie Turori, goes on a journey to discover her own cultural heritage and plug into her past.

Like many children who immigrate to new countries, Melodie was rarely exposed to her family’s Cook Islands roots. Now as a young woman and filmmaker, Melodie travels back to the Cook Islands and New Zealand to learn more about her heritage. Viewers will be immersed into Cook Islands culture, exploring many traditions, especially the rare art of tivaevae quilting.

Your donation will help support the film’s mission to encourage others, like Melodie, to explore their own heritage, plug in to their past, and to gain a cultural identity that can transform their future.
