Summer event schedule
As part of our efforts to spread the word about Spirit of Tivaevae, I will be attending several of the Pacific Islander events and festivals around Southern California this summer. Here is the confirmed schedule thus far, I’ll update the post if we add more events.
Inland Empire Ho’olaule’a
June 21-22
PICC will once again be hosting the cultural villages at the IE Ho’olaule’a. We’ll have our Cook Islands booth, plus I’ll be teaching folks how to make ti leaf leis, and we may have other crafty things going on.

Hura Tahiti
June 27-28
Technically I’ll be working during this event — I’m the official event videographer — however my table will have some tivaevae pillows and flyers. It’s the 10th anniversary of Hura Tahiti, come on out to see all of the amazing dancing!

Heiva San Diego – Tifaifai Workshops
August 9-10
Heiva SD is bringing an artisan over from Tahiti to teach tifaifai quilting workshops. Tahitian tifaifai is very similar to Cook Islands tivaevae, both in name and style. In addition to the workshops, there will be quilts on display from all over Polynesia.
